UiTM grading system (Jadual 4)
The same table covers diploma and bachelor's programmes. It comes from Jadual 4 of the Peraturan Akademik Diploma dan Sarjana Muda UiTM (Pindaan 2021), in force from the October 2021 session.
| Marks | Grade | Grade point | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90–100 | A+ | 4.00 | Lulus |
| 80–89 | A | 4.00 | Lulus |
| 75–79 | A- | 3.67 | Lulus |
| 70–74 | B+ | 3.33 | Lulus |
| 65–69 | B | 3.00 | Lulus |
| 60–64 | B- | 2.67 | Lulus |
| 55–59 | C+ | 2.33 | Lulus |
| 50–54 | C | 2.00 | Lulus |
| 47–49 | C- | 1.67 | Gagal |
| 44–46 | D+ | 1.33 | Gagal |
| 40–43 | D | 1.00 | Gagal |
| 30–39 | E | 0.67 | Gagal |
| 0–29 | F | 0.00 | Gagal |
Three things catch people out on this scale:
- C- starts at 47 marks, not 45, and it fails.
- There is an E grade between D and F. It is worth 0.67 points and it is still a fail.
- A+ and A both carry 4.00, so an A+ doesn't lift your HPNG above an A.
How UiTM works out PNG and HPNG
For each course, nilai gred × unit kredit gives its Nilai Kredit. Add up the semester's Nilai Kredit and divide by the credit units registered that semester: that's your PNG. HPNG does the same over every semester.
Because the divisor is credits registered, a failed course still pulls your average down.
That changes when you finish. Once you complete your programme (status ANC, TS or TM), or pass every course but end under 2.00 (status D6), UiTM regenerates your HPNG: each failed grade is replaced by the passing grade you got when you repeated the course. Fails marked FD, YY or ZZ are not replaced. So if you repeated a course, your final HPNG and degree class can be higher than the calculator shows when you enter the failed attempt. To preview that figure, enter only the passing attempt of each repeated course.
| Course | Grade | Nilai gred | Unit kredit | Nilai Kredit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course 1 | A- | 3.67 | 3 | 11.01 |
| Course 2 | B+ | 3.33 | 3 | 9.99 |
| Course 3 | C | 2.00 | 2 | 4.00 |
| Course 4 | C- (fail) | 1.67 | 3 | 5.01 |
| Total | 11 | 30.01 | ||
PNG = 30.01 ÷ 11 = 2.73
Dean's Award (Anugerah Dekan)
You need a PNG of 3.50 or more in the semester, on at least 12 credit units. If your study plan has fewer than 12 units that semester, the plan's actual units are used. Pass/fail courses don't count toward those units.
You must also never have been found guilty in a disciplinary case (tindakan tatatertib).
Vice-Chancellor's Award (Anugerah Naib Canselor)
All four conditions apply:
- A Dean's Award in every semester of the minimum study period. The industrial training semester is left out.
- Industrial training passed.
- No course ever repeated or marked TL.
- Never found guilty in a disciplinary case (tindakan tatatertib).
UiTM degree classes and the HPNG to graduate
Diploma and bachelor's students both need an HPNG of at least 2.00 to graduate. Bachelor's degrees are then classed by final HPNG (Jadual 6, from the October 2008 exam cohort):
| Class | HPNG |
|---|---|
| Kelas Pertama (First Class) | 3.50 to 4.00 |
| Kelas Kedua Tinggi (Second Class Upper) | 3.00 to 3.49 |
| Kelas Kedua Rendah (Second Class Lower) | 2.20 to 2.99 |
| Kelas Ketiga (Third Class) | 2.00 to 2.19 |
- Kelas Pertama
- Kelas Kedua Tinggi
- Kelas Kedua Rendah
- Kelas Ketiga
UiTM questions
Is C- a pass at UiTM?
No. Jadual 4 marks C and above as Lulus, and C- and below as Gagal.
What HPNG do I need for first class?
3.50. Second class upper starts at 3.00.
Are HPNG and CGPA the same thing?
Yes. HPNG is UiTM's name for the cumulative grade point average, so any "CGPA" requirement from an employer means your HPNG. UTM and UKM write PNGK.
